Video 1: Creative Concept:
The music video "Somebody that I use to know - Gotye ft Kimbra"  has a creative concept throughout the music video. This is because they are wearing skin tight nude colour clothing in front of a blank background at the start of the music video. As the music video progresses the blank background starts to gradually gain colours and shapes. Then the two artists also start to gain colours and shapes on their bodies to camouflage with the background. The reason why I think this is creative to me because there is no other music video that has the same or similar idea. In addition it is an artistic video and must've taken time and money.

Video 2: Narrative
The music video " Titanium - David Guetta ft Sia" has a very unique narrative in the music video. At the start of the music video, you see a boy sitting on the floor in a destroyed hallway in a school, you could say he has been bullied by the way he's sitting on the floor by himself. Later on you just see the boy trying to escape from the police, then it starts to build up when the viewer find out that the boy has super powers. Towards the end the boy gets trapped in the woods by the police and then the boy starts to release his optimum power. I chose this because you rarely see a video with a young person that has a superpower and is afraid to face it or hurt people he truly love and cares about.

Video 3: Performance element

The music video "Thinking out loud - Ed Sheeran" has an amazing performance throughout the music video. I know this because it's located in a rented, fancy ball room and there is only two people dancing, Ballroom dancing to be specific which makes it an elegant music video. This is effective because it makes the viewers feel love due to the type of dance that contrast with the music and the pace of the music.

Video 4: Visual effects

The music video "Beware - Big Sean ft Lil wayne, Jhene Aiko" has good visual effects during the music video. Throughout the music video, there are neon colour effects on Big Sean while on his clothing and the background there are: field, mountains etc. I wouldn't say this is an original idea because there is other music video with the exact same visual effect, for instance "Route94 ft Jess Glynne - My love". However, I do think that the idea of Big Sean in front of a plan background and the effects on his clothing and not on the background is clever. Furthermore, at 1:54-2:15 is probably a unique idea because they make the human figure appear base like.

Video 5: Camerawork (shots/movement)
The music video " Pistols - Seinabo Sey" has a lot of camerawork (movement). This is because during the whole of the music video, the director uses a variety of shots. For example in the first 20 seconds of the music video, the director has used 4 shots: a medium close up, a long shot and a birds-eye-view shot. Later on in the music video, you start to get more camera movements such as, pan and many more. This is effect for the viewers because the can see every detail but in a different angle. I would say this is a good idea because it's a lady in red in the middle of a dark forest and the close up and the rotation of the camera around her in the dark forest is very effective.

Video 6: Mise-en-scene
The music video " Russian Roulette - Rihanna" has a good Mise-en-scene. The scene she performs/ acts in is dark colours which could show her depressed or dark side of her. What she wears could also link with the background. Rihanna wears cool colour clothing like blue and wears brown which contrasts with the colour of her hair. The colours perhaps also shows and mean that she is imprisoned.

Video 7: Editing (inc. counting the shots in the video)
The music video "7/11 - BeyoncĂ©" has good editing skills. This is shown by the number of shots use to make it. The  first 30 seconds of the video, there is 24 shots, the editor then speeds up all the shots. Moreover, they play some parts in reverse with a really face pace. This goes well with the beat, this is because as the lyric almost freezes so does her dance/ action.

Videos 8: Your choice of focus/analysis

The music video has an interesting performance element. This is because throughout the music video, " Chandelier - Sia" the girl age 15 is dancing non stop while Sia is singing. The girl is dancing in a run down apartment/ room using the props around her. This is a unique idea because no other music video has a solo dancer, dancing throughout the whole music video.

This music video has strong visual effects. " Kanye West ft Rihanna - All the lights" starts of calming, but then later on in the music video lyrics start flashing on the screen in different bright or neon colours as one of the artists sing/ rap their own verse. This is a good idea because not a lot of songs have their lyrics during the majority of the music video.

Representation

The representation of white, male, American’s in the movie ‘The wolf of wall street’, is that they make their money by running an illegal business and makes ridiculous amount of money. This is shown by the way Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) spends his money on luxurious things and how he acts towards people. Additionally, we can tell by the way Leonardo DiCaprio’s illegal business is organised, which shows that he doesn’t care. This might be because Jordan Belfort had a bad job in the beginning and didn’t get paid as much, until he finds a way to be filthy rich, which is running an illegal business. After a while, Leonardo DiCaprio gets carried away and starts to do drugs and hires prostitutes. This shows how the American life is lived. Women are presented as sex objects in the movie ‘The wolf of wall street. This is shown by the scene where Jordan Belfort and Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill), hired lots of exploited women to celebrate the amount of money they’ve made. This shows that women are only used for their aesthetic pleasure. It also shows that it’s a misogynistic society

Dawn of the plant apes

Genre: Science fiction, drama and thriller.

Narrative: It's about a group of genetically evolved apes lead by the dominate ape Ceaser, who tries to make peace with the humans. Ceaser also says the line throughout the movie 'Ape family' and also talks about respect, when Kobe  the villain betrays Ceaser and tries to kill him.

Character:  Andy Serkis who is known as Ceaser. Jason Clake who is known as Malcolm. Keri Russell who is known as Ellie. Kodi Smit-Mcphee who is known as Alexander. Lastly, the villain Kobe who is played by Toby Kebbell.

Iconography: The iconography of science fiction, drama and thriller is space ships, violence, fighting, fire/ explosions, talking creatures, someone dies, prisoners and ext.

Settings: In the trailer it is set mainly in the forest in San Francisco in America, and then changes the location throughout the movie. In America on the streets, that's where most of the fighting take place as well as a bit in the forest.

Genre: Crime and Thriller

Narrative: A former DEA moves with his daughter to a quiet town, to get away from danger. When a drug dealer invades their home and tries to kill the daughters dad.

Character: The DEA is played by Jason Stathan, the drug dearler is played by James Franco and the daughter is played by Izabela Vidovic.

Iconography: The iconography of crime and thriller is usually; violence, car crashes, kidnapping, guns (shooting), drugs, explosions, blood, dark basement/ attic, stalkers and ext.

Settings: In the trailer the settings is New Orleans in the USA and then towards the end they are on the bridge in Louisiana in the USA. It's kind of typical to have a scene on the bridge; usually they have a fight and the car or person ends in the water.

Genre: Horror and crime thriller.

Iconography:  The iconography of horror and crime thriller is: stabbing, blood, creepy music, shooting, abandoned houses in the woods, people with no identity, screaming, pop up unknown killers, hostages and ext.

Settings: In the trailer it was set in the Northern California, even though this movie is based on true life stories, the settings changed to represent the different stories. Similarly, setting the movie in Northern California, perhaps in the woods is more predictable when the killing happens.

Film trailer and poster analysis

 Poster key convention:

In the film poster '12 years a slave,' it would have the central image, name of the movie, the director, the actors, the institution, release date and the star ratings.

The central image is of Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays Solomon Northup. The editing of having a fade on his trousers look like grass; therefore this will make the audience want to see this because it shows that he's free or that he's escaping.
The title ' 12 years a slave' tells the audience the narrative of the movie by using a statistic and 3 words. Also we can see that the number 12 is in orange, perhaps to show freedom/ escapism.Additionally, the specific font used for the number could emphasise how long it has been.
The release date will always be at the bottom of the poster in bold. I can also see that the number '30' is in orange just like the number '12' in the title, this could symbolise that the numbers are very important.
The critics views would be found under the star ratings at the top of the page. They said "... A moment of such humanity and grace that at every moment you feel you're seeing something essential."
The ratings of the movie was 5 gold stars, this will make the audience watch this because it has been rated 5 out of 5, which must mean it is a good movie.

12 years a slave

My chosen movie:

1) I've chosen 12 years a slave.
2) The reason why I chose this film is because Steve McQueen, who is the first black movie director who won an Oscar. On top of that, it is based on a true story of Solomon Northup.

Institutional background:

1) The production company is Regency Enterprises, River Road Entertainment, Plan B Entertainment and many more.
2) It was distributed by Fox searchlight pictures and Entertainment one.

No brand loyalty:

1) The genre of 12 years a slave is historical drama.
2) I know that the genre is historical drama. This is because black people getting whipped and the discrimination against the blacks.
3b) No. Brad Pitt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong'o ect

It's all a matter of timing:

1) It was released January 10th 2014.
2) 16th of July 2013:

It's a social thing:

1) The movie '12 years a slave' got a lot of good review about how emotional and infuriating it was. Also a few mentioned how there were unfamiliar faces in the movie a part from Brad Pitt, which was good because they got to feel true emotions.
2) Quote: "Lupita Nyong'o is the emotional epic enter of the entire film."
Quote: "Chiwertel Ejiofo executes every emotion flawlessly."

Risky Business:

1) The original budget of 12 years a slave is roughly $20,000,000.
2)  The film made $923,715 on the first opened weekend.
3) The total amount the money made was $56,667,870.

Star in the eyes:

1) Steve McQueen has also directed a movie called 'Shame' in 2011, the genre is drama only. Another film called 'Hunger' in 2008 however, it is a biography and drama similar to 12 years a slave apart from the historical bit.
2) The main character is Chiwertel Ejiofo who started in 12 years a slave.
3) He also stared in quiet a few other movies such as; Inside, Love actually, SALT, Melinda and Melinda and 2012. However, these movies are not the same genre as 12 years a slave, in fact majority of them are action and a bit of romance.
4) Yes the director and actors/actresses are mentioned at the end of the trailer as well as the end of the movie.
